Let us hope that Dorset Sports Cars have a good race this weekend at the Britcar 24hour in their Porsche 911
The Kevin Wilkins Toj SC302 DFV powered sports car performed exceptionally well at the CER Estoril race this last weekend. The car qualified on pole 1.9 seconds ahead of local pilote Mr Barbot in his DFV powered Lola.
With the race never being won on the first corner Barbot was let by with the Toj playing a waiting game in the hour long race. On the last lap the Toj was able to overtake the Barbot Lola to take its first win since being restored.
A well deserved win for the Toj that had suffered some technical problems across the weekend.
Next outing for the SC302 Toj is Circuit Paul Ricard on the weekend of the 8th October
Goodwood was as usual an excellent place to see some of the best historic cars that are out racing. The Nick Mason Ferrari 250 GTO was being driven by Martin Brundle and it came second in the race.
There was a spectaular fly past by 10 ww2 spitfires, a great sight to see in the air. When you see them on the ground, it makes you realise how brave those guys were who fought in the skies during the 39 – 45 conflict.
Despite the odd rain shower on sunday, everyone seemed to have smiley faces, though I did think Laurel and Hardy and the road repair guys are probably a bit played out by now!
A Scrutineer friend of mine did tell me that the head of a F1 team that is doing very well and looks like having back to back world championships this year; initials CH. Did put the car into reverse when he got in for his stint of the TT and jumped backwards whilst looking forward. Embarasing if true!
I was at Silverstone with the Toj SC302 3.0ltr DFV sportscar, a support race for the 6 hour of Silverstone race last weekend. The Le Mans cars had the new garages with the historic cars placed by the old pits.
The Historic assembly area was the old pit lane, the start and timing was the new pit lane. Silverston laid on a bus for the transfer between pits but it still took 10 minutes to get from the car leaving the old pit lane to the crew getting to the new pits.
Come on Silverstone if you insist on using the new pits for timing, why not do it like they do at spa? use the old pits for driver swaps etc yet time it from the f1 start. It works!!
The racer 4 sale BMW that is to be raced in the production BMW series, once we have ironed out a couple of issues.
We are now searching our data base of suppliers to help us get the car going quicker. We have sourced some light weight bbs style magnesium alloy split rims for the car – brand new and made to order. Fancy some?
The imola round of Classic Endurance Racing series is the target for the 2011 debut of the 3.oltr DFV powered toj sportscar. The exhaust is made and fittted to car, the bodywork is away at the painters. The car is to be finished in the original Warsteiner colours.
……. A friend of mine recently admitted to being addicted to brake fluid! When I quizzed him on it, he reckoned he could stop anytime.
It is good to see that Phil from Connaught Race Engines has had some good results with his race engines. The Warrior head has done well in rallying and it is good that he has received new orders for these engines. Twitter him on @connaughtpower
Hopefully 2011 will allow time to take the recently purchased BMW E30 race car out. It is eligible for the PBMW series and the CSCC future classic series, so should provide close affordable racing. That’s if I can remember which way the tracks go!! it will be interesting getting back out on the track after standing for too many years on the pit wall. What is they say when the green flag drops the bu****** stops! Hopefully it wont end up for sale on here. I do need to get a standard 320i airbox system for the car, they are harder to find than you can imagine.
Our first outing this year is to Barcelona at the beginning of April, its The Masters series and if Barcelona produces the weather of previous years it will be welcome from the cold winter in England. Hope to have some race pictures to put up on site.
